History: The Antares Class is one of the oldest vessels to be used by Starfleet. Introduced in 2184, and optimised for many non-combat missons, such as Scout ship, transport, freighter, and occasionally, courier. Although once used only by Starfleet, various Antares class ships have entered widespread use across many nations.

History: The Carlin Class began in 2246, out of a need to design and build state-of-the-art vessels with some of the new Warp 8 Drives, in an attempt to combat an ominous Klingon buildup along the Neutral Zone. The vessels took years to gradually design and construct, and were designed and constructed to become the first of a new type of starship, the Heavy Escort. The Heavy Escort was designed to carry a heavy amount of firepower, and be an extremely agile vessel, at the expense of crew accomandations, sensors and laboratory facilities, and especially recreation facilities, and in it's unique case, carry spare supplies, including even spare shuttlecraft, to assist and to expand the mission duration of it's assigned squadron or fleet. First launched in 2252-2253, the Carlins came just in the nick of time, supporting the first, second, third and fourth fleets, and contributing greatly to the battle with their heavy firepower and high maneuverability. After the war, the Carlins were kept in service, with a few ships reassigned to Neutral Zone patrol squadrons, replacing destroyed Louisiana Class Destroyers, receiving occasional upgrades, and performing to a somewhat more minor extent. The destroyers were retired in the 2290s.

History: The Kunoichi Class was among the first to employ a wide variety of new stealth technologies, including a Cloaking Device, sensor decoys, and a holographic caumaflauge system that "paints over" the ship, the latter two working in conjunction to both blend the ship into scenery, and actively give false readings to a tricorder, for instance of several trees or a large fern. The Kunoichis were among the first ships to use Hedronn Torpedoes, and are a landing capable Heavy Escort designed to support many of the Coalition and Allied Worlds vessels, including the new Legend Class Heavy Explorers.

History: The modular, mass-producable counterpart to the Legend Class Heavy Explorer, the Mythic is a maneuverable Light Explorer, equipped with an optional Holo-mount, capable of replicating experimental sensors, weapons, and drone-fighters for testing, a tremendous leap from the earlier Wizard and Pathfinder-class test ships. The Mythics are gradually replacing many older vessels in the fleet, such as the Interseer and Spielban Classes, and another batch has been ordered, to be begun in 2502.

History: The Class M Cargo Ships were capable of transporting up to 24,000 metric tons worth of cargo in a series of modular interlocking cargo segments, and were used heavily on many cargo runs, such as to Deneva, or the Formalhout colony. Sixty were built at a rate of around a dozen a year, and many were upgraded with tow pads replacing the cargo pads, and used in the same capacity as Ptolemy Class Transport/Tugs. The Class M Cargo Ships were replaced by the later Class Q and R vessels in 2269.

History: The Wambundu Class was a stablemate to the Ambassador and Envoy Class Heavy and Light Cruisers, as well as to be the first in a few new technological developments: The first Isolinear control computer, as well as the first drive to go past Warp 9.2, both of which made the Wambundu a reliable vessel, combat and non-combat, with some vessels being converted to cargo and medical ships and performing occasional missions in systems far from the Federation member worlds.

History: The Fearless Class was designed in 2212 as a new heavy cruiser stablemate to the Lancaster Class, making use of the new FW-6B Warp Nacelles planned (along with a smaller, "micro-nacelle"), for the upcoming Quetzalcoatl Class Semidreadnought, as well as being the first ship class to have an emergency transporter. The focus however, was primarily on the installation of a new weapons system, a new Heavy Particle beam, designed to require only a very small amount of power while delivering huge amounts of damage. The Weapons were, in practice, very difficult to repair and replace, and were soon found easier to simply exchange with FL-3s used on the Lancasters for the new Mk IIs, which were spread out over a series of new Andor and Rigellian shipyards, and unlike the Mk Is, were given a scattered array of registries. The Mk IIIs were given a major overhaul, getting the new FWB-2 Warp 7 drives, a pair of FL-6 Laser Cannons replacing the FL-3s, and a set of shields, performing admirably in the Four Years War, due in part to the brillian tactics of various captains, such as Sara Madsen, Ozaba Ubenghe, and Garth of Izar.

History: Launched in 2220, the Socrates was an extremely durable, well armed heavy cruiser, viewed as coming in the nick of time, since the Klingon empire had recently been discovered, and many had feared that there would soon be an invasion of the Federation. They made use of the new Warp 6 drives, as well as an extremely strong navigational deflector, which could occasionally operate as a low-power energy shield, which along with the tritanium armor, made the Socrates the most durable for it's time, with the weapons arsenal composed of several laser turrets which pop up to deliver amplified light pulses or beams, and a pair of new Accelerator Cannons, which insert an additional charge into the nuclear warhead, increasing damage and accuracy. The Socrates class vessels still performed admirably after the launch of the Constitution Class Starships, functioning as support vessels and doing well in the four years war against a variety of Klingon warships, being retired as first generation X-technology was being developed in 2269.

History: The Roddenberry Class, named after the Great Bird of the Galaxy and his Wife, is a light cruiser class designed for very long-range Gamma and Delta Quadrant exploration, lightly armed and shielded compared to other ships of the era, it still performs somewhat adequately in combat against True Ones ships, and with it's long-range sensors reaching out to 30 light-years, and with lateral sensors that are 2 1/2 times better than those of the Spielban and Interseer classes, it can collect huge amounts of data in a very short period of time.

History: THe Greenland Class Battleship was an attempt by the Federation to create an extremely powerful battleship to combat the numerically superior Klingon forces, using large numbers of Accelerator Cannons to pound apart entire squadrons of ships. The design however, was plagued by many problems. First, was the amount of resources required, about as much as would be required to produce six Constitution Class Ships, second was the warp drive, which was only capable of speeds of warp 4 (cruising) and warp 6 (emergency), making the vessel only about as fast as the high-end stardrive vessels, and finally, the cost was enormous, equivalent to an entire fleet of starships, causing the Greenland project to be rejected, although the Constitution and Carlin classes were already quite capable of handling most Klingon vessels by themselves, making the Battleship unnecessary

History: The Hercules Class was the first in a long list of heavy Cruiser Classes which were intended intended to take the heavy sensors and laboratory facilities of the Daedalus and combine them with the heavy firepower of the warships of the Earth-Romulan War. The vessels were fitted with two forward laser cannons, four atomic missile racks, and given heavy armor, plus enough stasis boothes and cargo holds for 250 crew members. THe Hercules Class ships were relegated to minor tasks when the Lancaster Class ships came online in the 2200s, and were retired in the 2230s.

History: The Confederate Class was a continuation of the development which would take it from the simple sphere section of the Daedalus, to the curving saucer of the Constitution Class, in this case, taking the previous "Squashed oval" shape of the Moskva, and expanding it to an almost hexagonal command hull. The Confederate was fitted with adequate sensor and lab facilities, and equipped with a very large amount of lasers for the period, with a heavy concentration on the forward arc, along with a pair of atomic missile racks, which, along with being very easy to maintain, allowed some Confederates to remain in service for several decades, somewhat longer than many other vessels of the same era.
